NEVER let your guard down.

Victor Ortiz is an unlucky man, yet not one I feel sorry for. As expected with a clash of this magnitude, both fighters were as aggressive outside the ring as they were in it. They certainly did justice to prime time boxing, even if it was all over in the fourth.

Had Ortiz payed attention to the recent Khan v Judah fight (you would've hoped he was watching carefully, no?) and the controversy caused by the final decision there, then I expect that he would have refrained from flinging his arms wide and leaving himself open to all manner of mischief. Particularly after dishing out a Tyson-esque head-butt, followed by a kiss. Oo-er.

Both Judah and Ortiz are either lying when they say they thought the referee was telling them to stop. That or they're bloody stupid.  I hate to agree with (the increasingly arrogant and pretentious) Mayweather, but you just don't drop your guard until you hear the bell. You don't stop the ball until you hear the whistle. You don't stop the race until they declare a false start over the, er, tanoy (just go with it). This basic principle applies to most sports, right?  Keep going until you have a clear indication to stop.

There is a difference between analysing the fight and admitting where you went wrong versus hiding behind an excuse.  I sensed  a touch of showboating about Ortiz's gesture, which betrays his little ref story.  Although I guess, when it comes to the punch, only he knows the real deal...

With regards to Mayweather's emotional display, it absolutely will not affect his future.  Anyone who's watched Boxing 24/7 will understand that Mayweather is emotional.  He's aggressive and he's unpredictable.   He's also not stupid and wouldn't do anything to jeopardise further financial gain.  Nor would Khan.  I'm still undecided as to whether I think the Pacquiao bout will ever materialize - I think that he's still too offended by the drugs allegations.  Anything could happen though, so we'll see...

If you missed the fight, HBO are showing it again this Saturday, so get streaming.

Team Tyson

I've written a big feature on Fury, so I don't want to talk too much here. Other than to say that I thought the 5th round stoppage against Firtha on Saturday was unfortunate.  I wish he'd have gotten the opportunity to put some serious rounds in.  He assures me that there is a big fight in the pipeline come January, so let's hope they go the distance then.  More to follow soon, I promise...

Blondes score more goals

I have a theory.  Fernando Torres started to go a bit off when he changed his locks from blonde to brunette. I think - and I'm no scientist, so don't take my word for it - that peroxide enhances Nando's performance.  Now I know that on Sunday he missed one of the easiest shots in the history of football (and I promise you, I tried not to laugh. Really, I did) BUT he also scored. Properly, for the first time in almost a whole year.

You have to admit, I put forward a compelling case...

I can't talk about Liverpool. There's nothing to say.
