England's positive performance yesterday in an ideal world would have marked the start of a less ridiculous phase than we've encountered in recent weeks. But we don't live in an ideal world do we? No. And lo, today we read that Capello must chose another England captain, since Terry has 'been allowed to return to his club Chelsea' ahead of the Champions League. Now don't get me wrong the Chelsea v United match is obviously important, but I can't be the only one who thinks it's bonkers that the captain of the English football team is having to miss a match. No wonder fans are more enthused by club football than their national side? This reaffirms that it's all a bit of a joke. What an insult to the Ghanaian team.
For the record my vote goes to Jack Wilshire, who's name I've read as a suggested candidate. He was again brilliant yesterday. I'm pleased that England were able to dance so beautifully, it was an excellent confidence boost which went a little way to restore my faith. (Although it's worth mentioning that I am an idiot and it doesn't take much - typical for an England fan though, I think.) I'm both relieved and sorry that Bale didn't play, it would have undoubtedly made things more interesting.
Anyway, I'd like to hope that Tuesday's match is not going to be uneventful. Whilst I doubt that Terry, Rooney et al will bother to watch, I'll be there like a stupid housewife who stands by her less than faithful man.
Artificial cloud at the World Cup.
Yes, you heard me, artificial cloud. This is what will keep our precious players from cooking to death in Qatar. Apparently air con will not suffice. I'm not making this up, click here if you want to see what they will look like. Perhaps I shouldn't mock, it will be in 2022 after all, by which time I'll be watching it on the hologram television in my space pod.
One Disappointing Innings.
Oh I feel for Strauss and the boys. England's world cup has been so interesting to follow, it's a shame that it ended with such a whooping. They are obviously worn out and the strength of Sri-Lanka's opening batsmen were an impressive force they just couldn't match. We did well to qualify for the knock-out stages, considering we had some very close calls. I for one remain a proud fan. When we're firing on all cylinders, I think we'll be unstoppable (although that seems to be my standard line for all our national teams at the moment!).
Now I'm all about India winning - fickle? Me? Never! I cannot wait for the match against Pakistan on Wednesday...
Power to the posh underdog.
I'm ashamed to admit that I was more interested in yesterday's boat race than I was in the socialist protests in Central London. Appalling I know, but true nonetheless. I too am against the cuts, but I live near Putney and have a disease which means that I'm interested in ANY local sporting event. That plus the fact that I hail from a village near Oxford, provided more than adequate justification for my support (I think). I was pleased that Oxford won in the manner they did - Cambridge never stood a chance. Now if you'll excuse me, there must be a Polo match somewhere that I can catch...
